Sulfamic Acid

Sulfamic Acid, also spelled as Sulphamic Acid, is a water-soluble compound that is available in white crystalline or powder form.

It is less corrosive to metals than other strong acids, such as Hydrochloric acid. The corrosion rate of metals in Sulfamic acid is mild Steel>>Aluminum>Copper>Brass>>18-8 Stainless Steel, nevertheless, the corrosion of mild Steel was much lesser than that in HCl or in H2SO4.

Sulfamic acid is often used to replace Hydrochloric Acid to remove rust.

Sulfamic Acid Uses

Paper & pulp Industry

Sulphamic acid regulates degradation of pulp at the Hydrochloride and Chlorination stage due to temperature. It allows bleaching at lower pH and elevated temperature without any strength loss. It can be used as a bleaching aid to improve the whiteness and strength of the pulp. It also behaves as a Chloride stabilizer in the pulp & paper industry.

Dyes & Pigments Industry

Sulphamic acid removes extra Nitrites that are useful in the diazotization reactions during pigments and dyestuff manufacturing. Diazotization is the chemical process of converting a primary aromatic amine into diazonium salt of the amine.
This acid also removes the existing nitrides in process water of emissions.
